What is WPC (Wireless Planning and Coordination)?.

Wireless Planning and Coordination is a national broadcasting authority and a segment of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) discovered in 1985 under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

WPC provides the certification to the manufacturer to produce, sell, and import the wireless equipment under DoT. Without WPC certification manufacturer can’t produce, sell, or import products in Indian market.

What is the primary task of WPC?.

The primary task is to allocate and monitor the radio frequency spectrum and issue the radio license. This is done to ensure that the products are safe and secure.

Approvals Issues By WPC.

Equipment Type Approval (ETA)

A manufacturer must obtain an ETA certificate to function in the de-licensed frequency range. If your product has been operating under prescribed frequency (license-free status), then you are not required to obtain the WPC certification.

How to obtain ETA approval?

You are required to submit the application along with the radio test report accredited by the certified laboratory to obtain the ETA certificate. Some of the products that require ETA approval include:

Demonstration License

This non-network type license is required to demonstrate the wireless equipment. It is mandatory that the demonstration of the wireless equipment be carried on the particular frequency. You should have a justifiable Dealer Possession License

(DPL), before you apply for a demonstration license.

Experimental License

It is mandatory to obtain experimental license to conduct the experiment on the wireless equipment; it is a network type license. Before acquiring the experimental license, you are required to possess the DPL license.

Internet Service Provider (ISP) License

Companies that provide internet services in India must possess ISP license. ISP license has been divided into three categories depending on the area and scale of the range:

Category A: Can provide services all across the country.

Category B: Can provide services in 20 Territorial Telecom Circles, metro cities, and cities Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

Category C: Can provide services in DOT-defined Secondary Switching Areas (SSA).

Dealer Possession License (DPL)

DPL is issued to the distributors or dealers of the wireless products. This license is to impede individuals and firms from transferring, selling, and possessing wireless devices or lookalike equipment to other companies or individuals

without a justifiable license. Obtaining the DPL could be tedious, but PRP group experts make it as easy as cakewalk.

Non-Dealer Possession License (NDPL)

NDPL is issued to the individual or firm, who is neither a dealer nor possesses any WPC license. NDPL is exact opposite of the DPL.

Import License

This license is issued to allow the manufacturer to import their products in India. It also includes a quota to establish the number of products that can be imported under a specific license.
